Composer Matthew Aucoin takes center stage with his own work. His James Merrill Songs are juxtaposed with Benjamin Britten's Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo, performed by tenor Paul Appleby. The program continues with Britten's Cello Suite No. 1, Op. 72, paired with the world premiere of a new work by Aucoin—commissioned by the Frick for cellist Coleman Itzkoff, and performed with the composer.
We are grateful to the Howard & Sarah D. Solomon Foundation for sponsoring this concert.
