The New York Times called the American Modern Opera Company’s Summer for the City 2025 season “a milestone” both for the performers and for Lincoln Center. This spring, AMOC* returns to Lincoln Center for a series of one-night-only presentations of new and foundational compositions. The March program spotlights a formidable chamber music collective constructed of AMOC* core ensemble members including violinist/violist Miranda Cuckson, violinist Keir GoGwilt, and cellist Coleman Itzkoff. Together, they will play “Wildflowers,” a new and intricate miniature duet for violins by Juri Seo, and “Meadow,” composer Linda Catlin Smith‘s gently wandering, gradually unfolding string trio. The program closes with a rendition of selected movements from “Limin’,” the Canadian composer/pianist Stewart Goodyear‘s suite for violin and keys that draws inspiration from American and Caribbean scenes and dances. “Limin'” will feature Cuckson and a special guest appearance from Goodyear on piano.

AMOC* Up Close: On the Hinge of Modernity

AMOC* Up Close
On the Hinge of Modernity
Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 7:30pm
David Rubenstein Atrium, Lincoln Center
New York, NY

FREE – General admission, first-come first-served
Fast Track tickets available on Monday, March 30th at 12pm EST

Hot on the heels of the acclaimed Run AMOC* Festival, presented as part of Lincoln Center’s 2025 Summer for the City, the visionary interdisciplinary ensemble returns for a series of fearless and free performances at the David Rubenstein Atrium. The closing program, curated by The Juilliard School professor and Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient Emi Ferguson, spotlights the works of two pioneering Italian composers, Dario Castello (1602–1631) and Luciano Berio (1925–2003). Before dying at 29 to the bubonic plague, Castello was integral to the revitalization of early Baroque music, transforming the Renaissance canzona into the sonata. Berio, beginning with the groundbreaking Sequenzas (1958 to 2002), reimagined the very foundations of performance, form, and sound for the 20th century. Heard together, these trailblazers offer proof of how “new” music continually reinvents tradition. This evening’s Castello and Berio showcase will feature Ferguson on flute, Matthew Aucoin (AMOC* co-founder and MacArthur Fellow) on piano and percussion, and a formidable string trio of AMOC* core ensemble members that includes violinist/violist Miranda Cuckson, violinist Keir GoGwilt, and cellist Coleman Itzkoff.

Ruckus at The Frick Collection

Countertenor Reginald Mobley joins early-music ensemble Ruckus, flutist Emi Ferguson, and violinist Rachel Ellen Wong, in a program dedicated to the music of Ignatius Sancho (b. 1729)—composer, writer, and the first known Black Briton to vote in a parliamentary election. Sancho’s songs and courtly dances, drawn from his published collections, offer a window into the vibrant social and artistic life of 18th-century London. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Gainsborough: The Fashion of Portraiture, this performance celebrates Sancho’s legacy as a composer, man of letters, and key figure in the cultural landscape of his time.

The opening program presents the premieres of The Inner Core, from AMOC* co-founder and MacArthur Fellow Matthew Aucoin, and Camino Songs, by composer-instrumentalist-poet Doug Balliett. Aucoin’s Inner Core song cycle features the composer on piano, accompanied by acclaimed baritone vocalist William Socolof (Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic). Together, the duo limn the arc of an imagined romantic relationship from adolescence through the couple’s parting in early adulthood. Balliett’s Camino Songs was conceived while on pilgrimage to the Galician municipality of Santiago de Compostela. Supported with projections of the composer’s original photography, Camino Songs is a journey of self-reflection, local Spanish lore, and deep devotion.

Broken Theater in Copenhagen

Look forward to Broken Theater's performance in the Rhythmic Hall. International choreographer Bobbi Jene Smith visits Aarhus for the first time with her workshop-like performance, where intimate feelings and the boundaries of the stage are staged through dance, text and music.

The piece features an ensemble performance with twelve dancers, including Bobbi Jene Smith herself. You are drawn into a story about a dance theatre company rehearsing and into questions about where the institution and the individual meet or drift apart. Feelings of longing, humour, passion and division unfold, presented with physical intensity and presence.
