Bobbi Jene Smith & Or Schraiber
When choreographers Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber created I Cannot Love Without Trembling for the dance company a few years ago, the response was emphatic, described as “extraordinarily beautiful and moving” (Svenska Dagbladet) and “brilliant” (Dagens Nyheter). The music for that piece was performed live by the Göteborg Opera Orchestra. Musicians Coleman Itzkoff & Mikael Darmanie will also contribute to this new piece.
Bobbi Jene reached a wider audience through the award-winning documentary Bobbi Jene(2017) and together with Or, she has created works for institutions including the Paris Opera and the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen.
The Frick presents Matthew Aucoin: In Focus, Part I
Composer Matthew Aucoin appears as musical curator and performer, introducing the music of four UK-based composers little heard in the United States: Lisa Illean, Mark Simpson, Tom Coult, and Alex Paxton. The program is the first of two evenings featuring Aucoin at the Frick, and features musicians from the Royal Academy of Music and cellist, Coleman Itzkoff.

The Frick presents Matthew Aucoin: In Focus, Part II
Composer Matthew Aucoin takes center stage with his own work. His James Merrill Songs are juxtaposed with Benjamin Britten's Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo,performed by tenor Paul Appleby. The program continues with Britten's Cello Suite No. 1, Op. 72, paired with the world premiere of a new work by Aucoin—commissioned by the Frick for cellist Coleman Itzkoff, and performed with the composer.

Handel’s rarely performed final opera arrives at Hudson Hall in a bold new production from R.B. Schlather and the acclaimed early music ensemble Ruckus.
Disguised as a girl on the island of Skyros, Achilles believes he can outrun fate. But Deidamia, who loves him, discovers what prophecy already knows: some destinies demand everything. Featuring hidden identities, impossible desire, comic disguises, and devastating heartbreak, Handel’s dazzling blend of comedy and tragedy is brought to life with period instruments, a cast of emerging and established stars, and Schlather’s contemporary theatrical sensibility.
A rare chance to experience an overlooked gem in the intimate setting of New York State’s oldest surviving theater.

We're excited to bring you two premieres, including Christopher Cerrone's Selah — a double concerto for violin and cello performed by Anthony Marwood and Coleman Itzkoff under the baton of returning conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin. Feel the depth of emotion in Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, which the composer premiered over 200 years ago to instant acclaim — pastoral strings, bombastic brass, and percussive climaxes that will knock your socks off.
